"6 If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is (constantly) nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. - Paul writing to Timothy in 1st Timothy chapter 4 (NLT) This caught my attention as we are focusing this week on being disciplined to read our bibles daily! In verse 6, Paul relates our need for physical nourishment to our need for spiritual nourishment. So I looked up the definition of nourish. Nourish means "provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition."
So Paul is saying this: In the same way we need food to grow, be healthy, and stay alive physically...we need the Bible to grow, be healthy and stay alive spiritually. Without this spiritual food, we cannot be spiritually strong. Imagine an athlete trying to compete in a competition when he hasn't eaten in weeks! Imaging how hard life would be if you ate actually food as often as you ate spiritual food! Would you still be alive today? So the question is how do you "eat" the Bible? Here it is. You read it. You think about what it means and how you can apply what it says! (If you need help understanding, you ask a trusted person or resource questions!) Simple as that. A few questions:
In conclusion: Just as we need food to survive, we need the Bible! And we can have as much of this spiritual food as we want! Lets go feast! Comments are closed.
